In 2017, Sam Vonumu, CEO of Uplift a Child is visiting DR Congo to meet our children. During that trip, he was going to DR Congo via Nairobi. At that time, he met Alice & Sam Makori in Nairobi who was assisting with accommodation and airport transfers. He was invited for lunch at Makori’s house. During that time, he has noticed 5 children at the house. He thought that those children are Makori’s children. But found out that those children are rescued from a tribe to better their lives with education. Found out that the girls in that particular tribe get married at a very young age and go through a lot of cultural issues and their lives are shattered because of that. Makori family started to help them with what ever they could and still struggling to help them. Sam Vonumu was touched with the exemplary life of Makori family and have extended a helping hand to take care of 50 children from the village close to Kisumu. In 2018, Uplift a Child Kenya was registered in Nairobi and got all the approvals from the government of Kenya and have started its support with 50 children. We will be helping more children in other locations once we get some Kenyan citizen sponsors from around the world.
